The production of Feta PDO by the Kalavryta Cooperative takes place after a series of quality controls. At every stage of the production process, starting from the collection of the milk, its pasteurization, cheesemaking and continuing to the packaging in wooden barrels and the ripening of the cheese, strict quality controls are carried out, defined by the BRC and ISO 22000: 2018 quality standards, implemented by the Kalavryta Cooperative. This way, we are certain that we produce a high quality product which is absolutely safe.

A modern, fully equipped chemical and microbiological laboratory for the control of raw milk, raw feed materials and finished products operates in our facilities.

PDO : Protected Denomination of Origin

It is the European Union's policy to protect the name of specific products, which are produced in a traditional way and have unique characteristics. This is achieved with the geographical indications of each product (PDO, PGI, GI), which in this way protect the name of the products with special properties, a traditional method of production as well as reputation, which inextricably links them to the land of their production. PDO products are those that have the strongest ties to the region in which they are produced. Kalavryta Cooperative's Feta has received certification from the Agrocert organization and is considered a PDO product.


The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food has established the Organization for the Certification and Supervision of Agricultural Products (OPEGEP), which bears the distinctive title 'Agrocert'. This organization implements procedures for inclusion in the system of controls and certification of companies that produce, process, prepare, package and place in the market PDO and PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) agricultural products. The Kalavryta Cooperative has received certification from Agrocert for the production and packaging, for the purpose of marketing our Feta PDO.

Greek branding

The presence of the Greek brand on products and services ensures that they are produced in Greece, thus giving them domestic added value. It also avoids misleading the consumer and strengthens the competitiveness of Greek businesses.

ISO 22000:2018 και BRC

ISO 22000:2018 and BRC are quality standards, which set specific quality control requirements for the provision of the respective certificates. The company that checks the Cooperative's compliance with the above standards is TUV Hellas.
